Theatre Company Haraki, the first theatre company founded in Georgia in 2019 is a collective of 7 permanent members, lead by director Sandro Kalandadze and writer Mariam Megvinyte. Our main work methodology is one of collaboration as opposed to regular traditional theatre hierarchy existing in Georgian state theatres and an on going resarch and work on the actor and actor's body. Our work entails practice of variuos exercises to awaken the body, expand awareness and achieve stronger voices, which is a part of Sandro Kalandadze's research into acting and theatre in general.
We look for dialogue, exchange of ideas creating relevant theatre heavily focusing on creating new texts and offering new forms of expression without any ideological restrictions. In 2021 once the pandemic restrictions were lifted we decided it was the right time to open our own space founding The Theatre Haraki that is managed by our theatre company collectively. Ever since we opened our doors to public, the space has become much more than just a theatre, it became a shelter for many independent projects starting from poetry reading, to music, censored film screenings, communal gatherings, book readings, performance etc. We have collaborated for more than 50 artists within and outside of Georgia and it has genuinely become the safe space of exchange of ideas in the ever more authoritarian political environment.
